(More customer reviews)First off, i've reviewed other New Balance basketball sneakers here before, so am familiar with the brand. I was originally looking to buy the BB889 but as usual NB no longer makes them and they are sold out everywhere (in my size). I have wide feet, and their are few sneaker brands that work around that. NB is one of them. When I browsed NB's website I was turned off by the appearance of these BBall shoes. They just looked plain ugly. With little options out there, I decided I'll used them for function and disregard looks, so I ordered the black on blacks. To my surprise, they actually looked great. The lettering and stripes are a bold metallic silver that really stands on the black. I recall thinking, wow I might actually have descent bball kicks here. I'm an 11.5 2E, but given my experience with past NB BBall sneakers, I ordered a half size larger 12 2E (you should do the same). I play 2 x week in an indoor court. Here are the pros:
Great traction, toe box has the right amount of room, the sneaker feels dependable and very stable, though its a leather (or synthetic leather) upper- my feet did not feel like they were in a sauna- now they weren't powder dry but they weren't sweating or too hot either, the sneaker is responsive, they look good on court-in the first week I received 2 different compliments on the looks and people asked me where I bought them, they don't feel cumbersome or too heavy, good torsional rigidity, good heel stability, ankles felt kinda secure, lastly I find them to be reasonably priced-compared to Nike's at least.
Cons:
I wouldn't say these sneakers are made for comfort. Your feet don't feel special in these. Now to be honest, i'm comparing the comfort of these shoes to that of my NB 993 walking shoes, which I believe have spoiled me and this may be a bit unfair to the 889's. They just feel plain inside, the insole feels just boring and makes no effort in providing extra cushioning or comfort. Another con is that these sneakers seem to lack bounce. They seem to made to just do their job, nothing more and nothing less.
In closing, do I regret them? NO, not at all. Infact i'm fond of them and wear them proudly. They do their job in form and function. I highly recommend them. Just wish NB would change the insole and provide more bounce.
